SAUNA LAB: Becoming Human-Fish
SAUNA LAB: Becoming Human-Fish (2025) extends Inhwa Yeom’s speculative climate-research sauna through Hong Kong’s Lo Ting merfolk folklore and contemporary coastal pollution. Created for Future Tense at Hong Kong Arts Centre, the work asks how a body might adapt within a damaged marine ecology rather than remain separate from it.
Across multi-channel moving images, a tiled bath becomes a transitional habitat for iridescent hybrid bodies, water, flora, and synthetic matter. The work connects myth, microplastics, and bodily transformation to the wider SAUNA LAB inquiry into collective survival, care, and post-extractive futures.
