This paper proposes a digital twin-based museum exhibition planning and simulation system, with an aim to enhance arts museum curator’s capability in creating exhibitions. Although the number of virtual art museums have exponentially increased in varying digital formats, the direct participation of museum and arts curators in creating a one has been nearly disabled. While only a few previous studies have proposed 3D authoring systems primarily targeting curators, more investigation is required on how such systems meet with the actual work scope and flow of museum professionals. A systematic evaluation on the usability of these systems are required as well. For the proposed system, we built a digital database with spatial and semantic information of real museum spaces ; and integrated them with 3D authoring and simulation functions. Furthermore, the paper examines the efficacy and usability of the proposed 3D interface and interaction with 10 experts from the artworld. The results prove that our system can be easily used along with curatorial activities at museums; and that it partially supports their professional activities.

이 논문은 미술관 큐레이터의 전시 창작 업무 역량 향상을 위한 디지털 트윈 기반의 미술관 전시 기획 및 시뮬레이션 시스템을 제안한다. 다양한 디지털 형식의 가상 미술관이 기하급수적으로 증가중임에도, 이에 대한 큐레이터의 직접적인 참여는 거의 불가능한 실정이다. 극소수의 선행연구만이 큐레이터를 위한 3D 저작 시스템을 제안한 바 있으나, 실제 큐레이터의 업무 범위와 흐름을 포괄하지 못하는 점에서 한계가 있으며, 또 이러한 시스템에 대한 체계적인 사용성 평가가 부재하다. 그 대안으로, 우리는 디지털 트윈 기반의 공간 및 의미 정보와 더불어 외부 학술자료를 실시간으로 연동한 데이터베이스를 구축하였으며, 이를 근간에 둔 전시 기획 및 연구 기능을 포함한 통합 저작 및 시뮬레이션 시스템을 제안한다. 나아가, 해당 시스템의 3D 인터페이스와 인터랙션을 10 명의 전문가들과 함께 구체적으로 검증한다. 그 결과값은 우리의 시스템이 실제 미술관 업무에서 용이하게 쓰일 수 있으며, 또 큐레이터의 여러 전문 역량과 요구사항을 지원한다는 것을 증명한다.
