Soma X Chandra (2019–23)는 소마와 찬드라들이 함께 구축하는 옴니버스(omniverse)이자 멀티버스, 메타버스다. 일부 범아시아 믿음 체계에서 ‘소마’는 신성한 음료와 이를 담는 제기를 뜻하며, ‘찬드라’는 달의 신이자 소마의 다른 이름이다. 각 막을 거치며 퍼포머는 바닷물 소믈리에, 신의 음료, 정원 관리사, 추종자, 찬드라로 변신한다. 찬드라 역시 행성과학자, 달, 네트워크 환경 관리자, 예언자, 소마로 변주된다. 자신과 타인의 정체성이 겹치고 흐려지며 여러 시간이 동시에 흐르는 공간은 공연의 핵심 기술인 확장현실(XR)로 구현된다.
작품은 XR을 통해 물리적 무대와 공연하는 몸, 수행성, 시간 감각을 어떻게 확장할 수 있는지, 또 그 확장된 무대와 공연에서 다양한 정체성을 어떻게 표현할 수 있는지를 탐구한다. Chandra’s Signal (2020), Chandra X (2021), 오디오비주얼 퍼포먼스 Soma’s Garden (2023), 영상 작품 Soma Planetary Mantra (2023) 등 작가의 찬드라 연작 전반을 아우른다.
